DeepTones was created by David Cone-Gorham many years ago as a vehicle to share his music with friends, family and anyone else who cared to listen.
David has loved music for as long as he can remember. He started playing music when he was 5, on violin, but those efforts were squashed when he "accidentally" smashed his violin on the ground at age 7. Realizing how difficult it would be for David to destroy a piano, his parents quickly moved David into piano lessons with his mentor and family friend Ann Monaco. David continued classical lessons with Ann until age 14. To this day Ann remains David's first inspiration and continuing motivation to not just play music but to maintain a disciplined approach in his writing and practicing.
In addition to his classical training, David took various Jazz lessons from teachers in the Chicago area, and attended Blue Lake Fine Arts camp for many years, which culminated in his experience at 18 years old of traveling throughout Europe for a month playing in a "big band" performing Glenn Miller, Dizzy Gillespie, etc... He also managed to find time to play in a high school band, named Oversoul which played out numerous times in the Chicago area. David was honored to have been surrounded by some very interesting people in his growing up in Chicago, including 'real deal' blues hounds from the south side, and his family's friends, Clark Dean and Yoko Noge. He also grew up next door to the prodigy trumpet player, Amir ElSaffar who knew more about music at age 18 than David knows even now.
David moved to Boston, MA at age 18 in 1994, and quickly became active in the music scene, joining such acid jazz groups as Bubbafat, EKG, and eventually settling into co-founding the group Sugarcoat, an 8 peice funk band that went on to earn a nomination for best funk band in the 2002 Boston Music Awards. He also experimented in a group called The Session with Kool Kobe and J Omni, doing live hip hop.
David has been writing music ever since, and has been building his arsenal of compositions in an effort to supply music to various media outlets including radio, film, tv, and gaming. He also works as a song writer and has been pitching compositions to various members of the pop world. In Boston, David was honored to have played with accomplished musicians David LaDone, Kourtni Danner, Steve Morrell, Mark Erickson, Rachel Panay, Matt Anastasi, Kevin Williams, Ben Paille, Colin Gentle, Noah Clark, Charles Anastasiou, Kevin O'Brien, Tim Nickerson, and many more...
David has been living in Brooklyn, NY since 2007, is happily married for 3 years now, and expecting his first child, a boy, in July. He is a social liberal, and fiscal conservative - kind of. He doesn't believe in good and evil, - just various levels of enlightenment. Though he grew up with a Jewish mother and Catholic father, he finds more meaning in Buddhism than any other religion. He is the son of Patricia Cone (writer, teacher, nonprofit wiz) and Michael Gorham (professor, writer, economist extraordinaire), current residents of Oak Park, IL, the near west suburb of Chicago. His sister, Rachel Cone-Gorham, lives in NY as well and is a PR / Marketing Guru. David has been 'paying the bills' as a recruiter in the construction management, engineering, and real estate industry for over 12 years, and owns his own company, NYCM Search.
